Grief and Hard Times

Does Jesus really make a difference in people's lives?

When grief is overwhelming, even the most carefully chosen words may not be enough. In those moments, simply being present with someone can matter deeply. Father Tim recalls accompanying a grieving father who had been away from the Church for many years. Their time in prayer became a powerful reminder of how Christ can offer hope even in the midst of profound loss.

Content note: This reflection includes discussion of a death by suicide and a parent’s grief.

You have the words of eternal life.John 6:68

Hope can begin even when the pain remains.

Faith does not make tragedy disappear or provide an easy explanation for suffering. In the story Father Tim shares, a grieving parent found a place to pray and the beginnings of hope in Christ and the promise of the Resurrection. Sometimes accompaniment and silence are the most faithful responses we can offer.
